It Wastes Time
Isaiah 29:8 perfectly describes those who sit spellbound in front of their televisions, “It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite…” Is this not this the result of watching television?? After a “good movie” about some unsaved person finally getting temporary satisfaction, you get up and have nothing to show for the time that you wasted in front of the television. You are not a better, stronger, or more spiritual person, nor or you closer to God. Only one thing has changed and that is you are now worldlier and your philosophy of life has been indoctrinated by Satan himself, who, by the way, is the father of all involved in its programming!!!
I Corinthians 10:31 commands Christians, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all (everything) to the glory of God.” This also includes what you watch!! How productive is television?? Are souls won while you entertain and deceive yourself?? Do you draw closer to the Lord, as you watch the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life? When you turn off the television, are you anxious to thank the Lord for all the things that you watch? Do you praise God for giving you eyes, so that you can waste your time in front of the TV?? Does the “religious broadcasting” that has watered down the truth make you holy as God is holy?? The commercials that make you unhappy with your current situation with their glamour and glitter and wrong philosophy, do they praise the Lord??
Paul preached with a sense of urgency, because he knew that Jesus was coming very soon!! “Well,” you say, “that was some two thousand years ago, and He still has not come!” Oh, but Jesus has come. He’s come for those around you who have died unprepared to meet Him. Jesus may come for you sooner than you think, whether in the rapture or because your time is over. Will you get the television watcher’s crown in heaven?? Paul said in I Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” Again, I ask, is sitting in front of the television and allowing unsaved perverts to “program” you, always abounding in the work of the Lord?
II Peter 3:14 encourages us, “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” Will you be without spot or blameless from watching your television, as you stand before the Lord?? I Corinthians 1:8 says, “Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless (without spot of the world) in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:10 states, “That ye may approve things that are excellent (is there anything on the television that is excellent?); that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” I Thessalonians 3:13, “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” How can you be “unblameable in holiness before God,” while watching your television?? Not only are you wasting your time, but you are also allowing this box to determine what type of relationship you will have with God!
Ephesians 5:16 commands us, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” This was written almost 2,000 years ago, yet the times are even more wicked and Christ is coming back very soon! We as Christians need to make the most of the time that we have, as sojourners and pilgrims in this wicked world. We are not to waste our time learning the “ways of the heathen.” Very shortly, these heathens will be judged, and we will stand before the Lord and give account of the time that we spent here on earth. What a waste of time not only to be entertained by the world’s filth, but to waste time that should be spent with your children and spouse.
Let’s see if you have enough time for the television. Here are a few questions that you should answer to see if you have “extra time.”
If you answered “no” to any one of these questions, then throw your television out, because it is keeping you from fulfilling your duties before God!
Colossians 4:5,6 also commands, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without (the unsaved), redeeming the time (making the best use of your time). Let your speech be alway with grace (God’s mercy), seasoned with salt (the truth of God’s judgment), that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man (as you preach to them).” You will stand before God and give account for every person to whom you should have been preaching, instead of wasting your time in front of the TV. Your message of holiness and righteousness will not contain the salt, because your thinking is so worldly. I am amazed at what Christians are deceived into thinking is good! After not having the world program my thinking for all these years and getting alone with the Lord and His word, I see the world as Christ does – hopelessly lost, against the truth, and doomed to hell. What is more disturbing is to watch over the years the progression that many of my Christian friends who rejected the same truth that I heard when first confronted with the television issue. I am sorry to say that they are worldly, carnal, out of church, divorced, rebellious, and sidetracked. They have visited my home, (where our children dress modestly, covered from neck to ankles, are taught to work, to possess a good attitude, to be respectful, kind, courteous, and loving) with their children, most of whom the girls were in tight jeans, tight T-shirts, low-cut blouses, mini-skirts, worldly, faddish clothing, with impudent, sassy attitudes like the harlot of Proverbs 7:13. The children during their visit were “bored,” uninspired in the things of the Lord, and uncaring. These sweet children at one time have been corrupted by the things of the world. The girls did not know how to cook, sew, clean, etc. and had no desire to learn. The boys hadn’t worked an honest day in their lives. They bragged that they didn’t have duties and chores to do. I hear “famous preachers” with large compromising churches laugh about Satan’s tool of destruction. Well, God in heaven is not laughing at the destruction that it has caused.
Would Jesus watch television????? A resounding No, No, No, No, No!!!!! He knew it was coming and preached against it!!!
